THEN AND NOW: WHAT A MONSOON SUMMER DOES TO NATURE IN SCOTTSDALE
Everybody knows that the lower Arizona is a desert. And what does the term ‘desert’ connote in your mind? Sand dunes like those in Sahara, right_
Well, think again. The Arizona desert is like nothing that you have ever seen before. It’s like a green oasis in a Saharan desert. Especially after a rather wet summer with lots of monsoon storms, as we hear from our friends and neighbors.
Take a look at our backyard for example. I took pictures of it in late May before we departed for Europe. A little over four months later, when we returned, we found that our garden looked more like a tropical junge than a desert.

As you can see, in the Arizona desert anything can grow if you give it a little water. Even the tropical plants.
