REMEMBERING PEARL HARBOR: 73rd ANNIVERSARY OF “THE DAY WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY”
I woke up early this morning with awareness that today was Pearl Harbor Day anniversary. Bob Djurdjevic was not even born then, though I was incarnated at the time in another body. So maybe that’s why ever since 1983, I have been acutely aware of this day every year.
Scanning the headlines this morning, I was saddened to see a scant mention of “the day which will live in infamy,” as the then US president FDR put it in his radio address. For, the 2,400 other American sailors, marines and soldiers were only the first victims of a world war which was to take the lives of over 400,000 US troops.
And yet we, as a nation, have learned nothing from their supreme sacrifice. We have allowed a bunch of Wall Street mobsters to take over our government, install their puppets in the seats of power, trample our Constitution, and terrorize the people world over. And now, they are hatching up another war – with Russia (stand by for “OIL WAR OF 2014”-story on that).
As I honor the Pearl Harbor victims this morning, I also hang my head low in shame over what this country has become. I know they would. I know Miss Liberty would.
