ANOTHER HISTORICAL SCENE COMES TO MIND: NIXON’S EXIT
Knives are out for the sitting US president Joe Biden. And the assailants are not the Republicans.
Fearing a crushing defeat in November by the popular wave which Donald Trump has unleashed across the nation, the Democrats are huddling trying to figure out how to get rid of the senile president in the least painful way.
Just take a look at these media headlines this afternoon (July 18).

For those of us old enough to remember, they bring back memories of the fall of Richard Nixon. For months, he kept refusing to accept the reality of defeat over the Watergate scandal. And then on Aug 8, 1974 he quit. And that was it.

By the way – on Nov 7, 1972, Nixon was re-elected with largest mandate in American history, winning 49 out 50 states, and nearly 61 percent of the popular vote.
The higher they soar, the harder they fall.
Unlike Nixon’s in 1974, Trump’s star is still rising. If his popularity starts to decline, it sure won’t be before the November election. Which is what has put the Democrats in a panic mode.
Their strategists are painfully aware of the crushing defeat of their 1972 candidate George McGovern at the hands of Nixon. And are scurrying around trying to find a candidate who will prevent an encore with Trump.
The first on the list, of course, is Biden’s vice president Kamala Harris. Alas, she is even weaker than Biden. If they put her up against Trump, he would eat her for breakfast and spit her out like a cherry pit.
Here are six more candidates which POLITICO posted last week. Alas, none of them come even close to the name recognition of Biden or the popularity of Trump.

Besides, since the Democrats let Biden win all the primaries without a challenge, how would they now substitute another candidate without alienating all people who voted fro Biden? Guess they’ll have to rewrite their party constitution in a hurry. Or throw it out altogether.
Either way, the American political arena is heating up almost as much as the Arizona desert in July. And cracks in the Biden presidential campaign are widening.
HOW DOES A DAM BURST
For years, there is nothing. Then little cracks let through droplets of water. Months go by. They lead to bigger cracks. Then suddenly, there is a whoosh sound. In a matter of minutes, the whole damn dam collapses.
That’s what happened with Nixon in 1974. That’s what happened with IBM chairman John Akers in 1993. That’s what happened with Julius Caesar in 44BC. And that’s what will happen with Joe Biden in July 2024.

BIDEN QUITS THE RACE!
July 21, 2024- And then it happened. As was inevitable. Biden’s dam did burst today. He announced he was withdrawing from the race and endorsed his VP Kamala Harris to take his place.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” Biden said in a post shared on X. “Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.”

Which is what this writer said on Nov 7, 2020 – four days after the last presidential election. Here’s a cartoon a made and published that day. It’s a wonder Biden has lasted this long…
